More about Vintage Polerouter Sub SS Circa 1960's

This is a vintage c. 1960's stainless steel Universal Geneve Polerouter Sub. It has an integral original stainless steel link Gay Freres UG stamped bracelet with a folding deployment clasp, and an acrylic crystal. It includes an original fluted signed screw down winding crown, a second crown with a checkered top for time setting, and a solid screw down case back engraved with "STAINLESS STEEL," and a serial number. The 35mm diameter solid two-body case, gently curved lugs, bracelet, and stepped bezel, are polished/brushed. There is a matte black dial with steel fat baton hands with tritium inserts, a center sweep steel second hand, and there are white circular, rectangular, and triangular hour indices overlaid with luminous pips around a white perimeter minute/seconds scale. There is a perimeter 60-minute graduation scale with white Arabic numerals, and the 12.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. It has a 57-hour power reserve at full winding, This Universal Geneve Polerouter Sub has a mechanical automatic self-winding Universal caliber 215 movement. It's rhodium plated with Cotes de Geneve embellishment, and it's constructed with 28 jewels, an Incabloc anti-shock system, and a microrotor. It includes Girocap combined settings for the escapement wheel, a self-compensating flat balance spring, an anti-magnetic monometallic balance, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz). The Universal Geneve Polerouter Sub was introduced in the 1960's. Legendary watch designer Gerald Genta engineered the Universal Geneve Polerouter and it was introduced in 1955. The name was originally "Polarouter," and was worn by SAS airline crews who flew over the North Pole, requiring strong anti-magnetic watches.
