More about Tri Compax SS 37MM

This is a vintage c. 1940's stainless steel Universal Geneve Tri Compax. It has a leather strap and a stainless steel tang buckle, and rectangular chronograph pushbuttons. The solid, thick, 37mm diameter case, extremely sharp downturned lugs, angled bezel, and solid Snap-On case back are polished. The rejuvenated dial is silver with painted gold Arabic numeral hour markers (at 4, 8, 10, and 2) and dart indexes, and blued steel feuille hands and center chronograph hand. It has an outer minute track with Arabic numeral markers every five minutes, and an outermost 1/5 seconds track and tachymeter scale. There is a recessed subsidiary dial for the constant seconds at the 9 o'clock position, a recessed 12-hour sub dial at 6 o'clock, and a recessed 30-minute register at 3 o'clock. It includes a graduation for the date around the moon phase aperture at 12 o'clock, and rectangular apertures for the days of the week and the months. The 13.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical manual winding Universal Geneve caliber 287 movement is frosted gilt. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a monometallic balance that's adjusted to 5 positions. It includes a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, and an index regulator.
