This is a vintage c. 1950 stainless steel Leonidas Aeronautica Militaire Italian Air Force Oversized Monopusher Chronograph. It has the original leather strap with a steel tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. It has an onion-shaped signed pull out winding crown, a small round monopusher button at 4 0'clock, and a solid snap down case back. The 50mm diameter solid three-body case, straight downturned lugs, and notched rotating flat angled bezel, are polished/brushed. The original dial is black with mint condition pointed polished steel baton hands with luminous radium inserts, luminous radium baton and pip hour indices, and luminous Arabic numerals at the half hours. There is a white perimeter fifth-second chapter ring with white Arabic numerals every five seconds, and a luminous dive triangle at the 60 second position. It's marked above 6 o'clock with a white arched "AERONAUTICA MILITAIRE," and it includes a center steel chronograph seconds hand with a spade-shaped arrow tip. It has twin recessed glossy black subsidiary dials with concentric circle guilloche texture, white Arabic numerals, and markers, and steel indicator hands, including a running small constant seconds register at 9 o'clock, and a 30-minute chronograph totalizer at the 3 o'clock position. It has a 42-hour power reserve at full winding, and the 15.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Leonidas Aeronautica Militaire Italian Air Force Oversized Monopusher Chronograph has a mechanical manual winding Unitas caliber 45 C movement. It's rhodium plate and frosted gilt, and it's constructed with 21 jewels, an anti-shock system, a straight-line lever escapement, and a monometallic balance. It includes a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, an index regulator, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz) The very rare Leonidas Aeronautica Militaire Italian Air Force Oversized Monopusher Chronograph was introduced in the late 1940's, and was issued to the Italian Aeronautica Militaire. The Unitas caliber 45 was originally a pocket watch movement.
