More about Vintage Manual Chronograph SS

This is a vintage c. 1960's Wittnauer Manual Wind Chronograph 3256. It has a shell cordovan strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. There is a screw-down solid polished case back engraved "STAINLESS STEEL." It has round chronograph pushbuttons and a push/pull winding crown. The 35mm diameter solid three-body case, downturned lapidated lugs, and stepped angled bezel are polished/brushed. The original dial is matte silver with applied Arabic numerals at 6 and 12 o'clock, and applied dart hour indices with still luminous dots around a minute/one-fifth second scale. It has the original Dauphine steel hands with luminous inserts, and a center sweep chronograph seconds hand. There is a red outer Telemeter scale to 10 miles, and around the perimeter is a blue tachymeter graduated to 1000 UPH. There are two silver guilloche subsidiary dials, including a running seconds register at the 9 o'clock positions, and a 30-minute totalizer at 3 o'clock. The 13.2mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Wittnauer Manual Wind Chronograph 3256 has a mechanical manual winding 14Y (Landeron Caliber 248) movement that's rhodium-plated, with fausses côtes embellishment. It's constructed wit17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance-spring, and an index regulator.
