More about Universal Geneve 890101/01 Vintage Aero Compax on UG Bracelet
This is a vintage c. 1969 stainless steel Universal Geneve Aero Compax 890101/01. This pilot's watch has an integral Universal Geneve stainless steel link bracelet made by Gay Freres, with a double deployment clasp, and a plexiglass crystal. There is a solid screw-down case back with the Universal Geneve logo and "Acier Inoxyable - Swiss" engraved inside. It has round chronograph push buttons and a screw-down signed winding crown. There is an external rotating 24-hour bezel with blue Arabic numerals that allows the wearer to read time in a second time zone based on the distance travelled. The 41mm diameter solid three-body case, integral lugs, bracelet, and flat bezel are polished/brushed. The dial is white with baton hands inset with yellow Tritium lume, a center sweep chronograph hand, and a 24-hour scale with black painted Arabic numerals and baton hour markers around a 60-minute/one-fifth seconds track with Arabic numerals every five minutes as well as black baton indices. There are three subsidiary dials including a running seconds register at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock, and a 15-minute dial at 9 o'clock, which is the duration of an airplane check before take-off. It's water resistant and the 12.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.
This Universal Geneve Aero Compax 890101/01 has a mechanical manual winding Universal Geneve Caliber 90 chronograph movement (based on the Venus 178 engine). It's rhodium plated with yellow and rose gold components. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It has a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and a micrometer regulator.
The Universal Geneve Aero Compax 890101/01 24-hour Pilot's chronograph was introduced in 1969.
