More about Vintage Compax 18K Rose Gold

This is a vintage c. 1942 18k rose gold Universal Geneve Compax 12476. It has a leather strap with an 18K rose gold tang buckle, and a domed acrylic crystal. Thee are rectangular chronograph pushbuttons and the polished solid snap down case back is engraved with the reference number "12476," and a serial number. On the inside of the case back is the Universal Geneve emblem and several hallmarks on an engine turned jeweled pattern. The 35mm diameter solid three-body case, fluted "teardrop" lugs, and angled bezel are polished. The original champagne dial has luminous painted raised Arabic numeral hour markers, evenly aged blue leaf-shaped hands with luminous inserts, and a center sweep chronograph hand. There is an outer 60-minute/one-fifth second scale with Arabic numerals every five minutes, and around the perimeter is a tachymeter to 1000 UPH. There are three recessed subsidiary dials including a running seconds register at the 9 o'clock position, a 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock, and there is a 30-minute totalizer at 3 o'clock. The 12.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Universal Geneve Compax 12476 has a mechanical manual winding Universal Geneve caliber 285 column wheel chronograph movement. It's rhodium plated, and it's constructed with 17 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a monometallic balance. It includes a self-compensating Breguet flat balance spring, and an index regulator.
