More about Vintage Tank Platinum 425 Diamond Markers

This is a vintage c. 1948 platinum Patek Philippe Tank, 425. It has a leather strap with a platinum tang buckle, and a two-facet crystal. The 20mm by 43mm solid two-body rectangular tank case, bezel, straight lugs, and Snap-on solid case back are polished. The original dial is silver with fine diamond hour markers, white gold dauphine hands, an outer railway-style minute track, and the Patek Philippe signature is still intact and fresh. There is a small seconds subsidiary dial at the 6 o'clock position. The 9mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical manual winding Patek Philippe caliber 06-6 movement is tonneau-shaped, and rhodium-plated with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 18 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a monometallic balance that's adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions. It has a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, and a sprung micrometer regulator. The Patek Philippe tank watches were the precursors to their tonneau-shaped Gondolo series that debuted in 1993, the company's homage to the 1920's Art Deco style timepieces.
