More about Oyster Perpetual Date SS Black Dial

This is a vintage c. 1978 stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date 1501. It has an integral Rolex stainless steel 7835 bracelet with 257 end links, and an acrylic crystal. It has a Twinlock screw-down winding crown, and a solid screw-down case back, inside of which is engraved, "MONTRES ROLEX S.A. GENEVA SWITZERLAND – PATENTED – STAINLESS STEEL – 1500." THE 34mm diameter solid three-body case, integral curved lugs, and angled bezel are polished/brushed. The dial is black with applied faceted steel baton hour marker and luminous dots around a perimeter minute/seconds scale. It has steel baton hands with luminous inserts, and a steel center sweep second hand. There is a date aperture window at the 3 o'clock position underneath a cyclops magnification bubble. The mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 1570 movement is rhodium-plated, with oeil-de-perdrix embellishment. It's constructed with 26 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance that's adjusted to temperatures and 5 positions, a self-compensating free-sprung Breguet balance spring, Microstella regulating screws, and a hacking seconds mechanism for precision time setting. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date 1501 was introduced in 1960, and it was produced until 1983.
