More about Tri-Compax Stainless Steel / Silver Dial

This is a vintage c. 1940 stainless steel Universal Geneve Tri Compax 22279. It has an alligator strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and a top hat acrylic crystal. It has rectangular chronograph push buttons, a pull out winding crown, and there are three correctors in the left-side case band for the day, month, and date; two are at 10 o'clock, and a third is at 8 o'clock. There is a solid snap down case back, inside of which is engine turned and stamped with "STAINLESS STEEL – SWISS," and the Universal Geneve crest. The 34.5mm diameter solid two-body case, curved lugs, and angled flat bezel, are brushed/polished. The original dial is silver with applied faceted steel dart and two square hour indices, black leaf hands with luminous inserts, and a center sweep seconds hand. Around the perimeter is a minute/one-fifth seconds scale with black Arabic numerals and steel dots every five minutes. There are four round recessed subsidiary dials, including a running small seconds register at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour chronograph totalizer at 6 o'clock, a 30-minute totalizer at 3 o'clock, and there is a moon phase indicator with a red hand at 12 o'clock with a radial date ring. The 12.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Universal Geneve Tri Compax 22279 has a mechanical manual winding Universal Geneve caliber 481 movement. It's rhodium-plated, and it's constructed with 17 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance, a blued steel Breguet balance spring, and an index regulator. The Universal Geneve Tri Compax 22279 was introduced in 1940, and it was produced until 1949.
