More about Vintage Polerouter Jet 14k Yellow Gold Circa 1970s

This is a vintage c. 1970's 18k yellow gold Universal Geneve Polerouter 104601. It has a leather strap with an 18K yellow gold Universal Geneve tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. There is a solid screw-down polished anti-magnetic case back engraved with the serial number, and the winding crown is pull-out. The 34mm diameter solid two-body case, downturned straight lugs, and angled bezel are polished. The dial is cream with an angled gold perimeter reserve with gold baton hour index markers. It has gold Dauphine hands with luminous inserts, a center sweep seconds hand, and there are small gold minute/seconds markers around the perimeter. The 9mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical automatic self-winding Universal Geneve caliber 215-07 a micro-rotor movement is rhodium plated, with fausses-côtes and cotes de Geneve embellishment. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and an index regulator. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz). Legendary watch designer Gerald Genta engineered the Universal Geneve Polerouter (10361) in 1954, and it was introduced in 1955. The name was originally "Polarouter," and was worn by SAS airline crews who flew over the North Pole, who required strong anti-magnetic protection for their watches.
