More about Explorer I 36MM SS / SS
This is a stainless steel Rolex Explorer I 14270. It has an integral stainless steel flip-lock solid Oyster link bracelet, and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. It includes a waterproof screw down crown, and a screw down solid case back. The 36mm diameter solid barrel-shaped oyster case, curved lugs, and flat bezel are polished/brushed. It has a black lacquered dial with white gold baton "Mercedes" hands with luminous inserts, a center sweep white gold "lollipop" seconds hand, applied white gold baton hour indices with luminous tritium inserts, and there are applied steel Arabic numerals with luminous white centers at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. It has a white luminous perimeter minute/second scale, and a luminous triangle at 12 o'clock. It has a Certified Official Superlative Chronometer (COSC) rating, and it's water resistant to 100 meters/330 feet. There is a 42-hour power reserve at full wind, and the 12mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Rolex Explorer I 14270 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 3000 movement. It's rhodium plated and constructed with 27 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic adjustable mass balance, and a Kif shock absorber device. It includes a self-compensating flat balance spring, Microstella regulating screws, a hacking seconds mechanism for precision time setting, and it was the last Rolex movement to use a balance cock and flat hairspring without an overcoil. It has bidirectional winding, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz). The U series (1997) Rolex Explorer 14270 debuted in late 1989 and was the successor to the now legendary 1016 worn on Mount Everest.
