More about Vintage Chronometre Geophysic SS Circa 1958 RARE

This is a vintage c. 1958 stainless steel Jaeger LeCoultre Chronometre Geophysic E168, with a JLC calibre P478BWSbr movement. It has a leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and a domed acrylic crystal. There is a screw-down solid engraved case back and an inner anti-magnetic dust cap. The 35mm diameter solid three-body case, downturned lugs, and angled bezel are polished. The original white dial is extremely clean with applied steel baton and Arabic numeral hour markers, an outer minute track in black, and center sweep hacking seconds. The steel spear hands retain their luminous Radium inserts with a patina that matches the Radium lume plots located in the rehaut. The 11.2mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Jaeger LeCoultre Chronometre Geophysic has a mechanical, manual-winding JLC calibre P478BWSbr movement that's rhodium-plated. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, Glucydur balance, and a straight-line lever escapement. The movement is further protected by a soft iron anti-magnetic inner case, making it resistant to 600 Gauss. The Chronometre Geophysic was created in 1958 during the official International Geophysical Year, an international scientific project that lasted from July 1, 1957, to December 31, 1958 where 67 nations participated in scientific exploration of our planet
