More about Reverso 2400 SS Black Dial Radium 1947 RARE

This is a vintage stainless steel Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso, ref. 2400, circa 1947. It has an alligator leather strap with a stainless steel buckle. The solid five-body tonneau-shaped art deco case is polished and brushed with a solid case back. It has a black dial with luminous steel sword hands and painted luminous baton hour index markers, an outer minute track, and a plexiglass crystal. The case is 38.5mm by 23mm, and it's 8.4mm thick. The JLC manual winding caliber 438 movement is constructed with 17 jewels, one barrel, a mono-metallic balance without shock protection, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and Geneva stripe embellishment. The mechanism oscillates at 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz). The case, dial, and movement are all signed. Cesar de Trey and French designer Renee-Alfred Chauvot designed the innovative Jaeger LeCoultre art deco style Reverso watch in 1931, inspired by a challenge issued by polo playing British army officers who requested a wristwatch that would resist the abuse of the active sport.
