More about Nautilus Jumbo SS / 18k Yellow Gold

This is a stainless steel and 18k yellow gold Patek Philippe Nautilus 3700/1. This self-winding watch has the caliber 28-255C movement, an 18K gold mini-rotor, and a power reserve of 48 hours. It has hour, minute, and date functions, and it's very thin at 7.5mm. The dial has the unique Patek horizontally embossed blue/grey stripes with yellow gold applied hour markers and luminous insets. The sapphire crystal and bezel fixed with four screws is reminiscent of the porthole of an old fashioned ship. It's made from a two-piece case, which is water resistant to 400 feet. This watch was introduced in 1976, designed by the incomparable Gerald Genta. It was described originally as "oval," but it's actually a most beautifully curvilinear octagon. It was discontinued and then reintroduced in 2006, but these late 1970-1980's versions are considered by some watch aficionados to be a sort of "Holy Grail". The lack of a second hand in this series gives it a cleaner, more Zen-like design. Most owners claim it feels as if the bracelet was made from a cast of their own wrist. It has been described as a "wet suit inside a tuxedo."
