This is a c.1972/73 stainless steel and 18K white gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 1601. It has a stainless steel Oyster link bracelet with a folding deployment clasp, and an acrylic crystal. There is a screw down Triplock signed winding crown, and a solid screw down case back. The 36mm diameter Oyster-shaped solid three-body case, curved lugs, and 18K white gold fluted bezel, are polished/brushed. It includes a white "Buckley" dial with the original tritium luminescent inserts on the steel baton hour and minute hands, and there is a center sweep steel second hand. It has painted black Roman numeral hour markers and an applied steel Rolex crown at 12 o'clock, and there is a date aperture window at 3 o'clock with a magnified cyclops lens. It has a Certified Official Superlative Chronometer (COSC) rating, and there is a 44-hour power reserve at full winding. It's water resistant to 100 meters/330 feet, and the 11mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 1601 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 1560 (1650) movement. It's rhodium plated, and it's constructed with 25 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a KIF shock absorber system. It has a self-compensating flat balance spring, It includes a monometallic balance that's adjusted to temperature and five positions, and Microstella regulating screws. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5Hz). This Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 1601 was introduced c. 1956, and the Buckley dial is most commonly found on vintage Datejust models from the 1970s and 80s. John Buckley, a vintage watch dealer from New York, and owner of the Tuscany Rose Company, was a Rolex expert and the white dial with black Roman numerals (never applied – only painted) became associated with him. It is a nickname, and Rolex has never officially used it. Buckley dials are featured on Rolex references 1601, 1603, 16014, and 16030.
