More about Vintage Deep Sea Alarm SS US Edition Circa 1962 RARE

This is a vintage c. 1962 stainless steel Jaeger LeCoultre Deep Sea Alarm US Edition, E857. It has a perforated strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. The solid case back has an outer screw ring and is engraved with the Deep Sea diver logo. The crown at the 2 o`clock position activates the central revolving alarm dial, while the crown at 4 o`clock winds the watch and sets the time. The 40mm diameter solid three-body case, downturned lapidated lugs, and graduated black bezel with luminous white Arabic numeral minute markers and triangles at the quarter hours are polished/brushed. The original dial is black with "Deep Sea Alarm Automatic" signifying the US edition. It has the original luminescence on the baton hands and dial, and there is an outer minute/seconds track with black Arabic numerals every five minutes in a white reserve, and a center sweep seconds hand. The 13mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical manually wound Jaeger LeCoultre caliber K815 movement is rhodium-plated. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance spring, an index regulator, and a bumper-type rotor. Jaeger LeCoultre Deep Sea Alarm E857 was their first alarmed diving watch; it debuted in 1959 with two dial variations - one for the US market and another for Europe. It was produced for only a couple of years in a total number of around 950 pieces. Few have survived, due to the harsh underwater environment where they were utilized.
