Patek Philippe 3971/E Perpetual Calendar Chronograph retailed by Tiffany & Co, 3971E, 3971, a possibly unique example of a 3971 with a retailer stamp Tiffany & Co, transitional model introduced prior to all 3970 being issued with 2 casebacks, "E" stands for "Etanche" (referring to the waterproof screw-down back), the 3971 was introduced as a unique reference as the demand for display backs grew in the early 1990s, the 3971 was only supplied with a display back, this is the only Tiffany & Co stamped Patek Philippe 3971 to have surfaced on the market, 18K rose gold case on a strap with a rose gold tang buckle, the 18k rose gold case appears to be in completely original condition with hallmarks and lines all looking like the watch just left the factory floor, extremely crisp and sharp, iconic 1st / 2nd series dial with rose gold applied baton indexes and gold leaf hands, chronograph, perpetual calendar (day, date, month, leap year, moon phases), manual wind Caliber CH27-70Q, 24-hour indicator, screw down sapphire crystal display back, water resistant to 25 meters, size: 36mm, thickness: 12.9mm. Excellent condition with original box and extract from the Patek Phillipe showing an original date of sale in June of 1989.

This is a 1989 18K rose gold Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph retailed by Tiffany & Co. 3971/E. This is possibly a unique example of a transitional model 3971 with a display case back and a Tiffany & Co retailer stamp. It has an alligator leather strap with a rose gold tang buckle and scratch resistant sapphire crystals. It includes a signed screw down winding crown, "mushroom" style round chronograph push buttons, and there are four correctors on the case sides for the perpetual calendar including one at 10 o'clock, two more are on the top of the case at 12 o'clock. The 36mm diameter solid three-body round case, curved fluted lugs, and convex bezel, are polished. It has a 1st/2nd series silver dial with applied faceted gold baton and small square hour markers around a black perimeter chronograph second/minute scale with Arabic numerals every five seconds to 60. It includes gold feuille leaf hour and minute hands and a blued center sweep chronograph seconds hand. There are twin aperture windows at 12 o'clock for the day and month, and there are three recessed silver subsidiary dials with black Arabic numerals, markers, and gold indicator hands, including a combination constant running seconds/24-hour time zone dial at 9 o'clock, a combined radial date and color moon phase register at 6 o'clock, and there is a 30-minuite chronograph totalizer/leap year indicator at the 3 o'clock position. It's water resistant to 25 meters/80 feet, it has a 60-hour power reserve at full winding, and the 12.9mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph retailed by Tiffany & Co. 3971/E has a mechanical manual winding caliber CH 27-70 Q (based on the Lemania caliber 2310) column wheel movement that's rhodium-plated with fausses cotes embellishment, and the stamp of the Seal of Geneva quality mark. It's constructed with 24 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, and the patented Patek Philippe Gyromax balance that compensates for cold, heat, isochronism, and 8 positions. The case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5 Hz).
