This is a vintage 1968 stainless steel Rolex Red Submariner Tropical Meters First MKIII 1680. It has an integral 9315 Oyster stainless steel bracelet with 280 end links, and an "Top Hat" acrylic crystal with Cyclops bubble that magnifies the date aperture window at the 3 o'clock position. There is a screwed down protected Twinlock winding crown, and a graduated bidirectional revolving greyed bezel showing decompression times with Arabic numerals every ten minutes, alternating with baton indices, and a triangle at 60 minutes. It has a solid screw-down case back, and the solid 40mm diameter three-body case, slightly curved lugs, bracelet and bezel are polished and brushed. The rare MKIII Meters First dial has turned a perfectly brown tropical color, matching the aged patina on the "Mercedes" skeletonized steel hands and the dot, baton, and triangle hour markers. It has a steel center sweep second hand with a dot indicator, and an outer track with minute/seconds divisions. It has a Certified Official Superlative Chronometer (COSC) rating, and it's water resistant to 200 meters/660 feet. The 15mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Rolex Red Submariner Tropical Meters First MKIII 1680 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 1575 movement that's rhodium-plated with oeil-de-perdrix embellishment. It's constructed with 26 jewels, an Incabloc shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance adjusted to heat, cold, and 5 positions, a self-compensating free- sprung Breguet balance spring, Microstella regulating screws, and a hacking seconds mechanism for precision time setting.
