This is a 1966 stainless steel Rolex Daytona Cosmograph, 6239. It has an integral stainless steel rivet bracelet, and an acrylic crystal. There are round pump chronograph pushbuttons, and a screwed-down case back and winding crown. The 37mm diameter solid three-body case, tachymeter bezel, and bracelet are polished/brushed. The tachymeter graduations on the flat steel bezel are to 300 units-per-hour. The dial is silver with black sub dials, applied steel baton hour markers with luminous dots, luminous steel baton hands, an arrow-tipped center chronograph hand, and there is an outer 1/5 seconds track. It has a subsidiary guilloche dial for the small seconds at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour register at 6 o'clock, and a 30-minute sub dial at the 3 o'clock position. The 13.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical manual winding Rolex caliber 722 movement is rhodium plated. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a monometallic balance adjusted for temperature and 5 positions. It includes a shock absorber mechanism, a self-compensating free-sprung Breguet balance spring, and Microstella regulating screws. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz). In 1963 Rolex introduced the first Cosmograph model, the reference 6239. It wasn't named the Daytona until 1964, when Rolex officially sponsored the 24-hour race. After 1969, and the Paul Newman film, Winning, the Daytona became strongly identified with the actor.
