More about 1578J Sweep Seconds

This is a vintage 1959 18K yellow gold vintage Patek Philippe Calatrava 1578. It has an alligator leather strap with an 18K yellow gold Patek tang buckle, an acrylic crystal, and a solid snap down case back, inside of which is stamped "PATEK PHILIPPE & CO. – GENEVE – SWISS – REF 1576," hallmarks, and a serial number. It has a pull-out signed winding crown, and the 35mm diameter solid two-body case, fancy spider lugs, and flat angled bezel are polished. The dial is matte silver with applied faceted gold "boat-shaped" baton hour markers and gold dauphine hour and minute hands. There is a perimeter dot minute/second scale, and a gold small sub seconds hand. The Patek Philippe signature and the 5 second hash markers on the subdial are in black raised enamel. The 8.5mm thick case, dial and movement are all signed. This Patek Philippe Calatrava 1578 has a mechanical manual winding Patek Philippe caliber 12-400 movement. It's stamped with the Seal of Geneva quality mark, and the Patek Philippe hallmarks. It's rhodium plated with Cotes de Geneve embellishment. It's constructed with 18 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance that's adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, a cut bimetallic compensation balance, and a swan-neck micrometer regulator. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 19,800 vph (2.5 Hz). This Patek Philippe Calatrava 1578 was introduced in the 1950's.
