This is an 18K yellow gold c. 1941 Patek Philippe 1579. The three-part case with a snap-on back is an oversized 36mm in diameter (the largest Patek chronograph at the time), and it's a svelte 11mm thick. The crystal is domed acrylic and around the dial are applied pyramidal indexes that weren't included on every 1579 watch. The hands are gilt "Feuille," with a blued steel sweep seconds hand. The chronograph has a column wheel construction, and the sub-dials are slightly sunken. The manual wind movement has 23 jewels, a nickel with rhodium finish, micrometer regulation, the patented Breguet balance spring, a straight-line lever escapement, and 8 adjustment positions. The 30-minute register is at 3 o'clock, and the subsidiary seconds are at 9. This watch was produced from the early 1940's through the late ‘50's. In addition to rose gold, it was available in yellow gold, steel, and a handful in platinum. Two of the model 1579 devotees are renowned German industrial designer Peter Schmitt and musician Eric Clapton. This is an early example, recognizable for its unique "claw" or "spider" lugs. It was made c. 1952.
