This stainless steel Patek Philippe 3700/1A Nautilus was introduced in 1976, designed by the incomparable Gerald Genta. It was described originally as "oval," but it's actually the most beautifully curvilinear octagon in the world. It was discontinued, or "reintroduced" in 2006, but these late 1970-1980's versions are considered by some watch aficionados to be a sort of Holy Grail. The lack of a second hand in this series gives it a cleaner, more Zen-like design. This mechanical, self-winding Nautilus has the Caliber 28-255C movement, an 18K gold mini-rotor, and a power reserve of 48 hours. It has hour, minute, seconds, and date functions, and is super thin at 7.5mm. Most owners claim it feels as if the bracelet was made from a cast of their own wrist. The dial has the unique Patek horizontally embossed blue/grey stripes with silver applied hour markers and luminous insets. The sapphire crystal and bezel fixed with four screws is reminiscent of the porthole of an old fashioned ship. It's made from a two-piece case and it's water resistant to 400 feet. It has been described as a "wet suit inside a tuxedo."
