More about Porsche Design Ocean 2000
This is a Titanium IWC Porsche Design Ocean 2000 128. It has an integral single link titanium bracelet with a hidden deployment clasp, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. It has a screw down winding crown at 4 o’clock, and there is a solid screw down domed case back. The 40mm diameter solid two-body case, curved hooded lugs, bracelet, and flat, crenelated uni-directional rotating bezel, are brushed titanium. The dial is black with the original luminous rectangular tritium hour markers around a perimeter white stick minute/seconds scale. It has luminous squared tritium baton hands, there is a luminous center sweep seconds hand with a red needle tip, and there is a date aperture window at the 3 o’clock position. It’s water resistant to 200 meters/680 feet, it has a 42-hour power reserve at full winding, and the 15mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This IWC Porsche Design Ocean 2000 128 has a mechanical automatic self-winding IWC caliber 37521 (based on the ETA 2892-A2) movement. It’s rhodium plated with Glalhutte ribbing embellishment, and it’s constructed with 21 jewels, heat tempered blued screws, and an anti-shock system. It includes a a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and a micrometer regulator. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz). The very rare IWC Porsche Design Ocean 2000 128 debuted in c. 1984, and was one of the first solid titanium watches ever produced. This early and rare example was only sold in Porsche Design boutiques two years before the co-branded IWC models. The Ocean 2000 series was designed as a military dive watch with 200 meters water resistance (the greatest pressure resistance at the time).
