More about Royal Oak Black SS/Strap
This is a stainless steel Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, 14790ST.OO.0789ST. It has a rubber strap with a stainless steel deployant buckle. The solid 36mm by 46mm diameter three-body strongbox case is polished and brushed, with an octagonal bezel screwed down by 8 hexagonal nuts; the case back is also secured by 8 screws. It has downturned integral stainless lugs, a screwed-down stainless bi-directional hexagonal winding crown, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The dial is black with checker board "waffle" decoration, luminous applied Arabic numeral and steel square hour index markers, luminescent steel Royal Oak baton hands, a center sweep seconds hand, and an outer track with dot minute/seconds divisions. There is an aperture for the date at the 3 o'clock position, a power reserve of 60 hours at full wind, and it's water resistant to 100 meters/330 feet. The 8mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The automatic Audemars Piguet caliber 2225 movement is rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 40 jewels, 280 components, and a shock absorber mechanism. It includes a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance with variable inertia blocks, and a self-compensating flat balance-spring. It has a 22K gold monobloc oscillating weight with ceramic ball bearings, and the bevels on the bridges are diamond graved. It has a stop balance for setting the time, and the balance wheel oscillates at 21,600 vph (3 Hz). Audemars Piguet introduced the Royal Oak at the Basel Fair in 1972. It had a radically new shape and was designed by master horologist Gérald Genta. It was named after the legendary oak tree in which Charles II of England hid from his enemies, the Roundheads.
