More about Royal Oak Quantime Perpetual Calendar Platinum and Tantalum

This is a platinum/Tantalum Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, 26820TA.OO.0944TA.01. It has an integral Tantalum bracelet with a deployant clasp, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The solid 39mm diameter three-body case, bracelet, and signature octagonal bezel with 8 yellow gold screws are polished and brushed. There is a sapphire display case back secured by 8 yellow gold screws. The dial is grey with applied luminescent baton hour index markers, an outer minute chapter ring, and luminescent blued hands. There is a moon phase subsidiary dial at 6 o'clock, a day indicator at 9 o'clock, a date sub dial at 3, and the dial for the month with a leap year indicator is at the 12 o'clock position. It's water resistant to 50 meters/165 feet, it has a 60-hour power reserve at full wind, and the 10mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The automatic self-winding Audemars Piguet caliber 2120/4 movement is rhodium-plated. It's constructed with 38 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance that's adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and a hand engraved 18K yellow gold rotor segment. Jaeger LeCoultre and Audemars Piguet produced the Royal Oak in 1972, with a custom Jaeger LeCoultre movement. It was named for the British battleships of World War II, which in turn were named for the oak tree in which Charles II of England hid from his enemies, the Roundheads. The brilliant horologist Gerald Genta designed it.
