More about Ingenieur Automatic SS
This is a stainless steel IWC Ingenieur Automatic Vintage Collection, IW323301. It has an alligator leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. It has an exhibition sapphire crystal display case back, and a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields. The 42.5mm diameter solid three-body case, rounded bezel. and downturned lugs are polished. The dial is black with luminous dauphine hands and applied luminous, faceted baton index hour markers. There is a center sweep seconds hand and a screw-down crown. The rectangular date aperture is at 3 o'clock with a crown-activated rapid advance. There is a 44-hour power reserve at full wind, and the outer track has minute/second dot indicators. It's water resistant to 120meters/360 feet. The 14.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The automatic IWC calibre 80111 movement is rhodium-plated. It's constructed with 28 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a monometallic balance that adjusts for cold, heat, and five positions. It has a shock absorber mechanism, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and a hack mechanism. When Hans Ernest Homberger took over IWC in 1955, one of the first offerings was the Ingenieur automatic, made with a special soft-iron inner body for protection against magnetic fields. It was equipped with the first bidirectional automatic movement, developed by Technical Director Albert Pellaton. This watch is an homage to the first time/date Ingenieur of 1955.
