More about Calatrava 18K Yellow Gold 33MM

This is an 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe Calatrava 3919J. The Calatrava line was first introduced in 1932; they were considered the flagship timepieces of the brand. The general design philosophy was based on the German Bauhaus movement in fine art that appeared in the early 1900's; Bauhaus translates as "school of building," and a refreshing, anti-ornamental, functional simplicity was the result. The Calatrava line is still one of the more elegant Patek families of watches. This watch was introduced in 1985 and was replaced by a slightly larger version in 2006 to assuage the growing demand for larger cases. The distinctive double rows of "hobnails" surrounding the bezel are reminiscent of the edge of a fine coin. The dial is white faux-enamel with oxidized black gold feuille hands and roman numerals. A seconds subdial is at 6 o'clock. The case is two-piece construction and the sides are brushed while the lugs and bezel are highly polished. A tiny gold crown on a split stem is signed with the Calatrava cross. The Caliber 215 PS movement is manually wound with a 44-hour power reserve, and a Gyromax balance adjusted for cold, heat, isochronism and 5 positions. With 18 jewels and 130 parts it oscillates at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The leather strap has an I8K yellow gold pin buckle and the case has the Geneva seal; the case, movement and dial are signed. It was also produced in white and rose gold, and it's water resistant to 25m.
