More about LeCoultre "Barracuda" Master Mariner Deep Sea Circa 1967

This is a c. 1967 vintage stainless steel Jaeger-LeCoultre Barracuda Master Mariner Deap Sea E558. It has a shell cordovan strap with a stainless steel JLC tang buckle, and a domed acrylic crystal. It has dual screw-down cross-hatched crowns, with the one at 2 o'clock operating the rotating 60-minute black inner perimeter bezel with Arabic numerals at the quarter hours and a luminous triangle at the 12 o'clock position. It has a polished screw-down solid case back, inside of which is engraved "Super Compressor – Brevet - 317537 – 337462 - Lecoultre Co – Swiss - Acier Inoxibla - E 558." The 36.5mm by 40mm barrel-shaped solid case (including lugs), downturned lugs, and curved flat bezel are polished/brushed. The dial is black with replacement steel baton hands with green luminous inserts, luminous baton hour markers at 6, 9, and 12 o'clock, and thin baton indices around a minute/seconds chapter ring. There is a date aperture window at 3 o'clock, and it's water resistant to 200 meters/666 feet. The 14mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Jaeger-LeCoultre Barracuda Master Mariner Deap Sea E558 has a mechanical automatic JLC caliber K883 movement. It's rhodium-plated, with fausses cotes embellishment, and it's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, and a self-compensating flat balance-spring. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Barracuda Master Mariner Deap Sea E558 was originally introduced in 1967, and was produced until 1971 in an edition of only 1532 examples.
