More about Transitional Submariner Matte Tritium Dial 1981
This is a 1981 stainless steel Rolex Transitional Submariner, 16800. It has an integral stainless steel Oyster bracelet (93150), and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal with a Cyclops magnification bubble over the quickset date aperture at 3 o'clock. It has a screw-down solid case back and Triplock winding crown that's protected by the crown guard. The uni-directional graduated rotating bezel measures decompression time to 60 minutes, with a Tritium dot at the 60-minute position. The 40mm diameter solid three-body case, bracelet, case back, and reeded bezel are originally polished/brushed; however, nothing appears to have been re-polished recently. The dial is black with Tritium Rolex baton hands and a centered sweep second hand. It has applied Tritium dot, baton, and triangular hour index markers, and an outer minute/second track. It's water resistant to 300 meters/1000 feet, and it includes a Certified Official Swiss Chronometer (COSC) certificate. The 12mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 3035 movement is rhodium-plated, and it's constructed with 27 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, a shock absorber mechanism, and a monometallic balance that's adjusted to temperatures and 5 positions. It includes a self-compensating free-sprung Breguet balance spring, Microstella regulating screws, and a hacking seconds mechanism. This Rolex 16800 Submariner Transitional, reference 16800, combines the vintage look of a matte dial with a modern sapphire crystal.
