This is a stainless steel IWC UTC Antoine De Saint Exupery IW326104. It has a leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The 44mm diameter solid, two-body case, downturned lugs, and stepped bezel are polished and brushed. Although this Fliegeruhr/UTC Automatic watch has a self-winding movement, the crown is overly large for the operation of a pilot wearing a glove. The screwed-down case back is engraved with a high relief scene of two airplanes flying, with: “International Watch Co. Edition Saint Exupery.” The dark brown dial has applied luminous steel Arabic numerals, with triangular and baton luminous hour index markers at the quarter hours, and luminous alpha hands, with a center sweep seconds hand. There is an outer track with Arabic numerals every five minutes/seconds. It has an aperture for the date at 3 o'clock, and the arched second time zone window is at 6, with an independently adjustable hour hand as the time zone corrector. It has an inner anti-magnetic protection shield, and it's water resistant to 30 meters. The 13mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The automatic IWC calibre 30170 movement is rhodium plated, with oeil-de-perdrix embellishment. It's constructed with 23 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It has a monometallic balance that adjusts for heat, cold, and 5 positions, a self-compensating flat balance spring, a micrometer regulator, and a hacking mechanism. IWC has honored Antoine St. Exupery with several of its watches in recent years. This model was made in a limited edition of 1188 examples. St. Exupery was a poet and writer (The Little Prince), but he was also an adventurous, early pilot. This is essentially IWC’s Big Pilot watch, one of the finest watches for aviators being manufactured today.
