More about Vintage A278 Manual Chrono Reverse Panda Dial

This is a vintage late 1960's stainless steel Zenith Manual Wind Chronograph A278. It has an integral Zenith signed Gay Freres ladder bracelet with hollow links and an extension diver in the clasp, with ZB end links, and a plexiglass crystal. It has round chronograph push buttons, a pull out winding crown, and a solid screw down case back engraved with "ZENITH-SWISS MADE- WATERPROOF-ANTIMAGNETIC-STAINLESS STEEL," and a serial number. The inside of the case back is stamped with "ZENITH-SWISS MADE- ACIER INOXYDABLE." The 37mm diameter solid two-body case, downturned lugs, bracelet, and flat angled bezel, are polished/brushed. It has the original reverse panda dial with luminous tritium and yellow gold baton hour markers, steel baton hands with tritium inserts, a center sweep chronograph seconds hand, an inner minute/second track, and a perimeter 100-second scale with luminous Arabic numerals every 5 seconds. It has recessed white subsidiary dials, including a running small seconds register at the 9 o'clock position, and a 45-minute chronograph totalizer at 3 o'clock. It's water resistant to 50 meters/165 feet, and the 12mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Zenith Manual Wind Chronograph A278 has a mechanical manual winding Zenith caliber 146-DP (the same Martel ebauche used by Universal Genève) movement. The 146 is the last manual wind chronograph movement used prior to the introduction of the el Primero automatic.
