More about IWC IW371338 Doppel Spitfire Black Dial SS

This is a stainless steel IWC Doppelchronograph Pilot Spitfire IW371338. It has a leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. It has round chronograph pushbuttons, a round push button at the 10 o'clock position for the chronograph split second function, and there is a screw down solid case back engraved with "IWC – DER DOPPELCHRONOGRAPH," and a serial number. The 42mm diameter solid three-body case, curved lugs, and stepped bezel, are polished/brushed. The dial is black with applied silver Arabic numeral hour markers, and it has luminous steel spitfire hands, and a crimson red center sweep chronograph seconds hand. In a double chronograph, the center hand is overlaid onto another hand that moves in unison. To time a second event, one presses the pusher on the left side of the case, stopping the overlaid sweep hand, and displaying the elapsed time instantly while the main seconds hand continues to run until stopped. Press the left-side pusher again to allow the stopped hand to “catch up” to the running seconds, which is the “rattrapante" functioning. There are twin quickset day and date aperture windows at 3 o'clock, and there are three recessed black subsidiary dials with luminous white markers and Arabic numerals, and white Spitfire indicator hands, including a running small seconds register at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour chronograph totalizer at 6 o'clock, and there is a 30-minute totalizer at 12 o'clock. There is a white luminous perimeter minute/one-fifth second scale with Arabic numerals every five seconds to 60. It's water resistant to 60 meters/200 feet, and it has a 44-hour power reserve at full winding. The 16.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

This IWC Pilot Chronograph IW371338 has an automatic self-winding IWC caliber 79320 (base ETA 7750) movement that's rhodium plated, with oeil-de-perdrix embellishment. It's constructed with 25 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It has an anti-magnetic iron core, a monometallic balance that's adjusted to 5 positions, a self-compensating flat balance spring, an index regulator, and a hacking seconds device. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz).

The IWC Pilot Chronograph IW371338 was introduced in 2004.
