More about Zenith A384 Vintage El Primero TROPICAL Dial SS / Leather

This is a stainless steel c. 1969/1970 Zenith El Primero A384. It has a shell cordovan strap with a stainless steel Zenith buckle, and an acrylic glass crystal. It has a snap-on solid case back with a raised Zenith logo that reveals an acrylic exhibition display crystal, and round chronograph pushbuttons. The 37mm diameter sharp three-body solid case, downturned lugs, and flat arched bezel are polished/brushed. It has the original white Panda tropical dial with black sub dials and an outer tachymeter scale that have patinated to an even tropical brown color. The hands are silver and there are applied faceted baton hour marker indexes with a creamy patina, an outer minute/second ring, and a center red chronograph hand. There is a small seconds subsidiary dial at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour sub dial at 6 o'clock, and a 30-minute register at 3 o'clock. It has a date aperture window between 4 and 5 o'clock. The 13mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

The rare mechanical automatic self-winding Zenith "El Primero" caliber 3019 PHC / 400 movement is rhodium-plated with fausses cotes embellishment. It has a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance that's adjusted to 5 positions, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and an index regulator.

There were only 2600 of these watches made between 1969 and 1970.
