More about Rolex 17000 OysterQuartz Datejust Black Dial

This is a stainless steel Rolex Datejust OysterQuartz 17000. It has an integral Rolex stainless steel bracelet with a deployment clasp, and a acrylic crystal. There is a screw-down solid case back, and a screwed down Twinlock winding crown. The 35.5mm solid three-body case, integral hooded lugs, bracelet, and angled bezel are polished/brushed. The dial is black with applied faceted steel baton hour index markers and luminous dot hour indices around a perimeter minute/seconds scale. It has steel baton hands with luminous inserts, and a center sweep seconds hand. There is a date aperture window at 3 o'clock underneath a Cyclops magnification bubble in the crystal. It's water resistant, and the 13.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The quartz automatic Rolex caliber 5035 OysterQuartz movement is rhodium plated. It's constructed with 11 jewels, it's adjusted to temperature with analog thermocompensation, and it has a 32 khz oscillator.

This Rolex Datejust OysterQuartz 17000 was introduced in 1977. It required five years of engineering, development, and testing, and was the company's first completely in-house quartz movement. It ended its nearly 25-year run in 2001, and it remains one of the rarest regular production Rolex watches.
