Each week, EWC will be gathering horological industry news, cultural conversations and moments surrounding our favorite topic: timepieces. Happy Friday; here’s what’s on our watch.

It seems that every roundup for the past one hundred weeks has included watches from an awards show red carpet, but not this week! Before we head into the Oscars this weekend, we have a quieter week, but it’s still chock full of watches. Let’s get into it and see what’s on those wrists.

New release

Girard-Perregaux announced its latest timepiece, the Minute Repeater Flying Bridges. In addition to the minute repeater, it also has a flying tourbillon and a micro-rotor automatic winding system. The case and caliber incorporate features that are intended to resonate sound more clearly, including titanium within the movement architecture and domed sapphire crystals on the sides of the pink gold case. Though it isn’t a limited edition, due to the complexity and level of detailing in its construction and finishing, the brand will only make up to 8 pieces per year.

Celeb sightings

Baseball player Shohei Ohtani will enter into a global partnership with Grand Seiko beginning April 1 as part of their Grand Moments Project. The project reflects a shared philosophy grounded in a deep respect for the value of time and a commitment to approaching each moment with sincerity. “To carry forward a part of Grand Seiko’s heritage, shaped through decades of dedication, is something I deeply value. Feeling that legacy as I wear the watch brings me real joy, and it is my hope that we will continue this journey together,” Ohtani commented.

Actor and brand ambassador Ryan Gosling wore a TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Seafarer at ‘Project Hail Mary’ premieres in London and Paris. The sporty model, a modern interpretation of a classic sailing watch, is equally at home on a red carpet or a sailboat.

Chopard global ambassador Bella Hadid wore a Chopard L’heure du Diamant at the launch party for Revolve in Los Angeles. She wore it stacked with several bracelets and sported additional Chopard jewels throughout the event.

Aryna Sabalenka, currently the world’s top-ranked women’s professional tennis player, was spotted wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Openworked 15412OR while celebrating her engagement to Georgios Frangulis. The 41mm watch in rose gold is adorned with baguette-cut sapphires in rainbow colors around the bezel.

Industry news

TAG Heuer announced that Béatrice Goasglas, currently the President of TAG Heuer Americas, will become CEO of the brand, effective May 1. She has been at TAG Heuer since 2018, rising in ranks and changing locations from Geneva to Singapore to the United States, where she has led the brand’s Americas division since 2023.

Omega opened a new boutique in Aspen, Colorado, in conjunction with local retailer Oliver Smith. The opening celebrated the brand’s presence in Aspen as well as their role as timekeeper for the Olympics, with an Omega-branded bobsled brought in for the event.
