Lange & Sohne 701.001 Tourbillon Pour le Merite 701001, One of the original 4 models presented by Lange in 1994, the tourbillon was intended to show the technical prowess of the newly reborn company. Limited to only 106 pieces in yellow gold (with 200 pieces produced in total across all metals). 18k yellow gold case on a period correct 18k yellow gold Lange bracelet (made by Wellendorf), manual wind Lange caliber L902.0 movement with a 36-hour power reserve and 60-second exposed tourbillon with a diamond cap jewel at 6 o'clock, the first wrist watch ever to incorporate a tourbillon with a fusee and chain winding mechanism (consisting of 636 parts by itself) which helps distribute power evenly throughout the span of the power reserve, German silver dial with black painted Arabic numeral hour markers and railroad minute track, running seconds at 9 o'clock, power reserve indicator at 3 o'clock, blued steel hands, sapphire crystal, display back, diameter 38.5mm, thickness: 10mm. Like New with A. Lange & Sohne box, notes describing the features of the watch and a purchase date of January 1995, the factory testing sheets (also dated 1995) and Lange warranty card, which is undated.

This is an 18k yellow gold A. Lange & Sohne Tourbillon Pour le Merite 701.001. It includes an 18k yellow gold period-correct brick-pattern bead ALS bracelet made by Wellendorf with a folding deployment clasp and scratch resistant sapphire crystals. It has a signed pull-out winding crown and an exhibition sapphire display crystal case back secured with 6 screws and engraved with "A. LANGE & SOHNE – GLASHUTTE SA," hallmarks and serial number. The 38.5mm diameter round solid two-body case, faceted curved lugs, and convex bezel, are polished/brushed. The dial is German silver with black painted Arabic numeral hour markers surrounded by a black railway-style minute track with dot hour indices. It has blued steel dagger hour and minute hands and a large 60-second Tourbillon opening with a diamond cap jewel at 6 o'clock. There are twin recessed round silver subsidiary dials with black markers, Arabic numerals, and blued indicator hands, including a tourbillon small constant running seconds dial at 9 o'clock, and a power reserve indicator is at 3 o'clock. It has a 36-hour power reserve, it's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet, and the 10mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This A. Lange & Sohne Tourbillon Pour le Merite 701.001 has a mechanical manual winding A. Lange & Sohne caliber L902.0 movement. It's rhodium plated with Cotes de Geneve and fine hand engraving and it's constructed with 29 jewels, an anti-shock system, heat blued screws, a monometallic balance, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 18,000 vph (2.5Hz). The A. Lange & Sohne Tourbillon Pour le Merite 701.001 was introduced in 1994, the first wristwatch ever to incorporate a tourbillon with a 636-component fusee and chain winding mechanism for distributing energy evenly over the course of the power reserve (engineered by Giuilo Papi). It was one of the original 4 models introduced by Lange in 1994 in a limited edition to only 104 examples in yellow gold and only 200 in total in all metals. It was designed by Gunter Blumlein.
