This is a particularly rare 18k rose gold Chopard L.U.C Skull One 161950-500. It includes an 18k rose gold bead blasted case on a leather strap with an 18k Rose Gold bead blasted tang buckle and scratch resistant glareproofed sapphire crystals. It has a signed pull-out winding crown and an exhibition tinted sapphire display crystal case back secured with 6 white gold screws and it’s engraved with “L.U.C. SKULL ONE – AU750 – LIMITED EDITION 8 – 1950 – L.U.C.,” hallmarks, and an edition number. The 40mm diameter round two-body case, curved lugs, and angled convex bezel, are satin/bead blasted. The dial is galvanized black lacquer and has applied rose gold Arabic numerals at the quarter hours, applied dart-shaped hour indices, with a black and grey sunray surround and a stylized mustachioed Mexican Calavara/skull with a friendly context featuring sun, flower, and heart designs. It has unique pointed rose gold hour and minute hands, a 58-hour power reserve at full winding, it’s water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet, and the incredibly thin 7.20mm case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Chopard L.U.C Skull One 161950-500 has a mechanical L.U.C 96.53-L movement, Chopard double barrel "Twin Technology.” It’s constructed with a high-density tungsten micro-rotor, with Cotes de Geneve embellished bridges, perlage, an anti-shock system, 172 components, 27 jewels, a monometallic balance adjusted to heat, cold, and 5 positions, and twin barrels. It includes a balance spring with a flat terminal curve, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz). This watch was produced in an extremely limited edition to only 8 examples worldwide in 2023. It honors both the Aztec and Catholic “Day of the Dead” tradition celebrating the cycle of life.
