More about Vintage Monaco Chronograph Square SS Grey Dial
This is a vintage c. 1970's stainless steel Heuer Monaco Chronograph, reference 73633G. It has a leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle, and a flat-top acrylic crystal. It has a solid snap-on case back engraved with "Tool No. 033 – Heuer," and round canted chronograph pushbuttons. The 39.5mm by 43.5 solid square two-body case, straight lugs, and flat bezel are brushed. The dial is the original grey with applied faceted steel baton hour markers at all but the quarter hours, outside of the minute/one-fifth second track. There are red baton and luminous dot hour index markers, luminous red baton hands, and a red center chronograph hand. It has three square subsidiary dials, including a constant small seconds register at the 9 o'clock position, a 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock, and a 30-minute totalizer is at 3 o'clock. It has a power reserve of 42-hours at full wind, and the 13.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The mechanical manual winding Valjoux caliber 7736 movement is rhodium plated. It's constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and a micrometer regulator. The Heuer Monaco Chronograph, reference 73633G, was introduced in 1969, and named after the racing circuit in Southern France. Jack Heuer claimed that only 4.500 Monaco watches (including all references and dials) were produced from 1969 to 1974. It became internationally known when it appeared on the wrist of Steve McQueen in the 1970 film "Le Mans."
