More about Portuguese Chronograph Split Second SS

This is a stainless-steel IWC Portuguese Chronograph Split Second IW371202. It includes an alligator leather strap with a stainless-steel tang buckle and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. It has a signed pull out winding crown, round chronograph push buttons, and there is a round push button at 10 o'clock on the left-side case band for starting and stopping the split-second rattrapante chronograph. There is a solid case back secured with 4 screws and it's engraved with "INTERNATIONAL WATCH CO.," and a serial number. The 40.9mm diameter round solid 2-body case, curved lugs, and thin convex bezel are polished/brushed. It includes a soft iron inner case to protect against magnetic fields. The dial is silver with applied rose gold Arabic numeral hour markers surrounded by a gold pip minute/second scale and larger pip hour indices. There is an angled silver rehaut with a black 1/5 second/minute chapter ring with Arabic numerals every five seconds to 60. It includes rose gold feuille leaf hour and minute hands, a blued center sweep chronograph second hand, and there are twin recessed silver subsidiary dials with black Arabic numerals, markers, and tapered hands, including a 30-minute chronograph totalizer at 12 o'clock with a blued indicator hand, and there is a small constant running seconds register at the 6 o'clock position with a rose gold indicator hand. It's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet, it has a 44-hour power reserve at full winding, and the 12.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This IWC Portuguese Chronograph Split Second IW371202 has a mechanical manual winding IWC caliber 76240 (based on the Valjoux 7750/7760) rattrapante chronograph movement developed by master engineer Richard Habring for IWC. It's constructed with 31 jewels, a shock absorber system, a self-compensating flat balance spring, a hacking seconds function for precision time setting, and a monometallic balance. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vph (3Hz). The IWC Portuguese Chronograph Split Second IW371202 was released in 1995.
