More about Master Geographic SS / SS 40MM

This is a stainless steel Jaeger LeCoultre Master Geographic 147.8.57.S. It has an integral stainless steel link bracelet with a double-fold over buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The 40mm diameter solid three-body case, flat bezel, and downturned lugs are polished. It has a sapphire display case back secured with 4 screws, and a second crown at the 10 o'clock position for selecting any of the 24 additional time zones. There is a day/night indicator inside the day-of-the-month sub dial at 2 o'clock, and the second time zone sub dial is at 6 o'clock, with a red indicator for any of the alternate world cities that are bi-directional on a rotating disc between 5 and 7 o'clock. There is an up-and-down 40-hour power reserve indicator at 10 o'clock. The dial is silver with applied steel dart hour index markers, Arabic numerals at 3, 9, and 12 o'clock, luminous silver dauphine hour and minute hands, and a blued center hand for the complications. It's water resistant to 50 meters/165 feet, and the 12mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Jaeger LeCoultre Master Geographic 147.8.57.S has a mechanical automatic self-winding Jaeger LeCoultre caliber 937 movement. It's rhodium-plated with fausses cotes embellishment, and it's constructed with 38 jewels, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance adjusted to 6 positions, ceramic ball bearings, and a self-compensating flat balance spring. It has a micrometer regulator, a 22K gold rotor segment, and a hacking seconds mechanism. The movement oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz). The Jaeger LeCoultre Master Geographic 147.8.57.S was introduced in the 1990's. In 1992 the first Master Control watches debuted, passing a six-week, 1000-hour series of tests that became the benchmark examination for all JLC timepieces.
