More about Grand Reveil Perpetual Calendar Platinum

This is an 18K yellow gold Jaeger-LeCoultre Grand Reveil Perpetual Calendar, 180.110.990. It has a leather strap with a matching 18k yellow gold tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The 40.5mm diameter solid two-body case, stepped bezel, and downturned lugs are polished. The solid case back is secured with six titanium screws. The crown at 2 o'clock sets the alarm, while the winding crown at 4 o'clock sets the time; a crown between 8 and 9 o'clock adjusts the calendar. The dial is white porcelain with applied luminescent baton and dot hour index markers, a center sweep second hand, Blued steel skeleton hands with luminous triangular tips, and a red arrow hand for the alarm. An outer track measures the 12-hour clock and has divisions for 1/5 seconds, and there is a leap year indicator at 1 o'clock. A subsidiary dial for the months is at the 12 o'clock position, and another sub dial indicates the days of the week at 3. The moon phase sub dial is at six o'clock, and the date dial is at 9 o'clock. The four sub dials have yellow gold rims, and it's water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet. The 14.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. The automatic self-winding Jaeger LeCoultre caliber 919 movement is rhodium plated, with fausses côtes embellishment. It's constructed with 34 jewels, 350 components, a shock absorber mechanism, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance adjusted to four positions, a self-compensating flat balance spring, and a ball-bearing rotor. Jaeger LeCoultre debuted their caliber 919 Grand Reveil in 1989; it had the distinctive chime alarm sounded by a bronze gong fixed to the case. In 1992 they introduced the first Master Control, which passed a six-week, 1000-hour series of tests that became the benchmark examination for all JLC timepieces.
