More about Les Ateliers Petite Heure Paillonnee 18K White Gold
This is an 18k white gold Jaquet Droz Les Ateliers Petite Heure Paillonnee J005034258. It includes an 18k white gold case on an alligator strap with an 18k white gold tang buckle, and scratch resistant sapphire crystals. It has a signed pull-out cone shaped winding crown, and a snap down exhibition sapphire display crystal case back engraved with “JAQUET DROZ,” and an edition number, with hallmarks underneath the four lugs. The 43mm diameter round case, straight scalloped lugs, and stepped convex bezel, are polished/satin. There is a Grand feu white centered enameled time dial at 12 o’clock on and an indigo blue grand feu background with a fine sunburst finish covered with at least 10 coats of semi-translucent enamel layers fired at 800 Degrees Celsius. The delicate enamel geometric guilloche and gold-work pattern is done by hand. The time dial is attached to a brushed white gold gasket with 3 blued screws, with a signed “Jaquet Droz” oval plaque at 6 o’clock. The sword hour and minute hands are blued, with black Roman Numeral hour indices around a perimeter black pip minute/hour scale. It has a 68-hour power reserve at full winding, it’s water resistant to 30 meters/100 feet, and the 11.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Jaquet Droz Les Ateliers Petite Heure Paillonnee J005034258 has a mechanical Jaquet Droz automatic self-winding 2653 caliber movement. It’s rhodium plated with spiral Arabesque and Cotes de Geneve embellishment, and it’s constructed with 28 jewels, a monometallic balance adjusted for 5 positions, and an anti-shock system. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz). This extremely crafted watch utilizes the high art of “Paillonnee (French for “thin metal leaf”) a form of embellishment that’s a highly complicated and delicate artform. It was released in c. 2004 in an extremely limited edition to only 8 examples.
