More about Gondolo 5109J 18K Yellow Gold
This is an 18K yellow gold Patek Philippe Gondolo 5109R-001. It has an alligator strap with a matching 18K yellow gold tang buckle, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. It includes a pull-out signed winding crown and a solid screw-down case back secured with 4 screws. The 30mm by 43mm solid two-body case, straight lugs, and angled tonneau-shaped bezel are polished. The dial is champagne with applied black oxidized yellow gold Brequet hour numerals and black spade hands surrounded by a black perimeter railway-style minute scale with black trapezoidal hour indices. There is a small constant running seconds subsidiary dial at 6 o'clock with a black railway-style outer minute track and a black feuille leaf indicator hand. It's water resistant to 25 meters/80 feet, and the 6.2mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Patek Philippe Gondolo 5109R-001 has a mechanical manual winding Patek Philippe caliber 215 movement that's rhodium-plated, with Cotes de Geneve embellishment, and it's stamped with the Seal of Geneva quality mark. It's constructed with 18 jewels, 5 bridges, a shock absorber mechanism, a straight-line lever escapement, and a self-compensating free-sprung flat Spiromax balance spring. It includes the patented Patek Philippe Gyromax balance that compensates for cold, heat, isochronism, and 5 positions, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz). The Patek Philippe Gondolo 5109R-001 was produced in the early 2000's, although it was originally produced in the late 1940's, Upgraded and slightly re-styled, this recent example follows the same elegant tonneau, art deco style. The Gondolo collection debuted in 1993; the line is named for the “Chronometro Gondolo” pocket watches created by Patek Philippe for the Latin Brazilian Gondolo & Labouriau jewelers in Rio de Janeiro in 1902.
