More about Rolex 116660 Sea Dweller Deep Sea Deep Blue JAMES CAMERON

This is a 904L stainless steel Rolex Sea Dweller Deep Sea D Blue James Cameron 116660. It has an integral 904L stainless steel flat three-piece link Oysterlock bracelet. The solid 43mm diameter three-body monobloc case is polished and brushed. It has a unidirectional rotating bezel with a black Cerachrom ceramic insert, and Arabic numerals representing decompression times. It includes a screwed-down patented triplock winding crown protected by a crown guard, a screwed-down solid Titanium case back, a scratch resistant sapphire crystal, and a centered sweep seconds hand. The dial is Deep Sea Blue with luminous steel hands, and round, baton, and triangular hour index markers. "Deep Sea" is written in the same green color as film director/explorer James Cameron's submersible. It has the Rolex Chromalight luminescence with a distinctive blue glow that lasts twice as long as standard luminescent materials. It's water-resistant to 3900 meters (12,800 feet), and there is a helium escape valve at the 9 o'clock case position. The date aperture is at 3 o'clock, and there is an outer minutes/seconds track. The instantaneous date features rapid setting and a stop-seconds function for precise time setting. Included is a COSC (Certified Official Swiss Chronometer) certificate. The 17.8mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

This Rolex Sea Dweller Deep Sea D Blue James Cameron 116660 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 3135 movement. It's rhodium-plated and it's constructed with 27 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement, and a shock absorber mechanism. It has bidirectional self-winding via a perpetual rotor. It has a monometallic balance that's adjusted to 5 positions, and a free-sprung self-compensating Breguet balance spring. It includes a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring, Microstella regulating screws, and a central hacking mechanism. This watch is incredibly strong, water and pressure resistant, due to its exclusive Ringlock system. This radical case architecture enables the watch to resist the enormous pressure exerted by water at the depth of 3,900 meters (12,800 feet), equal to a weight of 3 tons on the watch. The system has a nitrogen-alloyed steel central ring, accompanied by a 5 mm‑thick, domed sapphire crystal and a case back in grade 5 titanium. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz).

Rolex introduced the Rolex Sea Dweller Deep Sea D Blue James Cameron 116660 for extreme underwater exploration in 2008. It was named after the experimental Rolex 1960 Deep Sea Special, the historical watch that dived to 10,916 meters in the Mariana Trench. This watch is a special edition commemorating James Cameron's descent to 10,908 meters/35,787 feet into the Trench in March, 2012.
