More about Explorer I 39MM Mark 2 dial
This is a stainless-steel Rolex Explorer I 214270. It includes an integral stainless-steel Oyster bracelet with a double deployment clasp, and a scratch resistant sapphire crystal. It has a solid screwed-down case back and signed screw down Triplock winding crown. The 39mm diameter solid three-body case, bracelet, and back are polished/brushed. The dial is black with applied Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock in Explorer fashion, and applied steel rectangular index hour markers with luminous inserts, with a luminous dive triangle at 12 o'clock. It has the new longer luminous "Mercedes" style Rolex hour and minute hands, and a centered sweep second hand with a circular "lollipop" counterbalance. There is a white perimeter minute/seconds track, and 8 luminous pips at the 6 o'clock position. It includes the Certified Official Superlative Chronometer (COSC) rating, and it has a 48-hour power reserve at full winding. It's water resistant to 100 meters/330 feet, and the 12mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Rolex Explorer I 214270 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 3132 movement that's rhodium-plated, with oeil-de-perdrix embellishment. It's constructed with 31 jewels, and a Paraflex shock absorber mechanism. It has a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance that's adjusted to temperatures and 5 positions, and a blue parachrom hairspring. It includes Microstella regulating screws, and a hacking seconds mechanism for precision time setting. The mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz). The Rolex Explorer I 214270 was introduced in 2011, and it was produced until 2016. In 1953 Sir Edmund Hillary conquered Mount Everest in Sir John Hunt’s famous expedition, with his partner, Nepalese Tenzing Norgay. They both wore an Oyster Perpetual to the summit of the highest point on the planet. Consequently, Rolex produced and launched the original iconic Oyster Perpetual Explorer, commemorating the conquest of Everest.
