It has a white dial with luminous dot, baton and triangle hour markers, luminous oversized "Mercedes" style Rolex hands, and a central sweep seconds hands. There is a date aperture with a Cyclops bubble-magnifying lens at 3 o'clock, and it has stop-seconds for precise time setting, and two time zones. The second time zone has independent rapid setting of the hour hand. It's water resistant to 100 meters/330 feet, and the 13mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed.

This Rolex Oyster Explorer II 216570 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 3187 movement. It's rhodium-plated with oeil-de-perdrix decoration, and it's constructed with a straight-line lever escapement, a monometallic balance adjusted to temperatures and 5 positions, an anti-shock device, and a self-compensating Breguet balance spring. It includes Microstella regulating screws, a hacking seconds device for precision time setting, and the mechanism oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vph (4 Hz).

The Rolex Oyster Explorer II 216570 was introduced in the 2010's. The original Rolex Explorer II was introduced in 1971, the heir to the Explorer I, which was designed to be a precision guide tool for volcanologists, explorers, and speleologists. It features a standout 24-hour hand for telling daytime hours from night around the poles and underneath the ground.
