This is a vintage c. 1948 18k rose gold Universal Geneve Climate Proof Compax 12299. It has a leather strap with an 18K rose gold tang buckle, and an acrylic crystal. It has a pull out domed winding crown, round chronograph push buttons, and a snap down solid case back with a serial number on the perimeter. It includes an engine turned interior showing the Universal Geneve shield and several hallmarks. The 34mm diameter solid two-body case, curved lugs, and flat angled bezel are polished. The original dial is silver with applied faceted dart hour markers, and an Arabic numeral at 12 o'clock. It has gold leaf hands, a center sweep chronograph hand with an ovoid counter balance, and a minute/second track with black Arabic numeral markers every 5 minutes. There is an outer red telemeter scale to 20km, and a blue perimeter tachymeter chapter ring to 1000 UPH. There are three recessed silver subsidiary dials, including a running small seconds register at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour chronograph totalizer at 6 o'clock, and there is a 30-minute totalizer at the 3 o'clock position. The 12.3mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Universal Geneve Climate Proof Compax 12299 has a mechanical manual winding caliber 481 movment. It's rhodium-plated, and constructed with 17 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance, a self-compensating Breguet balance spring, and an index regulator.
