Description
The Rolex 5512 Submariner MkII Matte Maxi Dial is a rare and highly collectible icon from the golden era of sports Rolex, produced in the late 1960s to mid-1970s. Unlike its 5513 sibling, the 5512 is equipped with a chronometer-rated automatic movement, typically the caliber 1570, setting it apart in terms of precision and technical merit. This particular example is an early rendition of matte dials circa 1967. The substantial 40mm stainless steel case, paired with a correct Oyster bracelet with a 1967 date code on the clasp. The bi-directional bezel and classic no-date functionality underscores the Submariner's professional diving heritage. The 5512 was a low-production reference compared to its contemporaries, making early examples especially sought-after among seasoned collectors. Its role as the template for modern Submariner design is evident in its proportions and dial layout, but the hand-finished details and creamy lume set it apart as a vintage treasure. The 5512 enjoys historical significance as a watch seen on luminaries and adventurers. (1.5M serial circa. 1967). Excellent Condition with Rolex box.
