Alexandra's Grail

Where you’re from:
Santa Monica, California
The first watch that moved you:
Tag Heuer Formula 1
Why:
Although my first watch was very forgettable (a plastic toy-ish timepiece), when my dad gave me a Tag Heuer Formula 1 on a bracelet in middle school, I knew I had reached a milestone. I was growing up – I now needed to know the time. I wore that watch everyday all day, from summer camp to formal dances. I still have it.
Day-to-day:
A colleague at The Wall Street Journal once said to me that storytelling is the oldest form of communication. While we must memorize facts, we remember stories. At both EWC and C&C, I’m the chief storytelling officer. I oversee our content strategies across multiple platforms, creating and implementing the long-term vision for EWC. At C&C, I have a hand in everything. From traveling the world and penning articles (I’m a reporter and journalist firstly), to coordinating the editorial calendar, managing our growing team, YouTube shows and events, everyday my job presents a different set of responsibilities – I love it.
Grail:
Timepiece history is endlessly fascinating for me. The more I learn, the more I want to know. From the Tiffany stamped Patek Phillippe’s (the Annual Calendar 5396G-012 Black Dial Tiffany & Co stopped me in my tracks when I first saw it) to the Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 (particularly the Platinum Silver Dial Blue Numerals) that’s meant to be worn on the inside of the wrist, my list of grails is always evolving. The original rose gold lapis lazuli ‘Andy Warhol’ Piaget is simply the most comfortable watch I’ve ever put on. I also love the yellow gold Cartier Baignoire – part bangle, part watch.
The world should know:
Los Angeles raised, New York tuned, globally based. I’m likely on a surfboard, airplane or deadline – my three loves. A competitive surfer and avid scuba diver, I thrive in warm, salty water (and enjoy submerging a great dive watch!). I’ve created a life where I intend to dress like Kennedy, work like Ford and party like Gatsby as much as I can.
