Where you’re from:
Boston, Massachusetts. I am a lifelong Bostonian!
The first watch that moved you:
My dad’s early 1970's Cobalt blue dial Seiko dive watch with an orange second hand that he wore everyday throughout my childhood.
Why:
I can clearly remember how cool it looked with its multi-row stainless steel bracelet that was stretched out from so much wear. The case looked like a spaceship! The magic was that he never complained about it, and to the best of my knowledge, he never serviced it. It wasn't until many years later, as a watchmaker, that I really appreciated what the brand name Seiko really meant!
Day-to-day:
As the Head Watchmaker at EWC, my day is highly dynamic. I will go from sorting out a broken screw that needs to be extracted to being fully engulfed in doing a complete overhaul of a Perpetual Calendar Chronograph. I'm also called upon to help clients and colleagues alike, to explain and enlighten in regards to all aspects of horology.
Grail:
I don't really have a grail timepiece. But a watch that I would like is a Ref. 1019 Tiffany & Co. Rolex Milgauss. I like sleeper watches, and this is a cool bit of Rolex history.
The world should know:
No matter the size, life is better when you not only set goals, but when they are achieved.
Bonus:
My career in the luxury goods industry began in 1988 as a Northeastern University Co-op, repairing fashion watches for a Boston jeweler. With instruction from local watchmakers and by studying Le Manuel Suisse de I'horloger-rehabilleur, I started a home-based watch repair business in the mid 1990s. Eventually, I began to design and fabricate watchcases and dials.
